The latest addition to the thriving Hartsdale restaurant scene is Bos­phorus, a Turkish restaurant with a Russian accent, that opened in mid-September on the site of the former Cheesery on East Hartsdale Avenue. Some of the Mediterranean specialties, like hummus, baba ganoush, falafel and spanikopita are familiar to the well-traveled diners of Westchester; cheef Yusef Alptekin puts a fresh new spin on these old standbys.

BosphoRus Restaurant: Showcasing the flavors of the Ottoman Empire

Geographically, the Bosphorus, also known as the Istanbul Strait, is the strait that forms part of the boundary between Europe and Asia. And now, the exotic worlds of Turkey and Russia — two countries on the cusp of Europe and Asia, have come together — thanks to Necdet Kasimoglu and Alexander Goldansky — to form a new kind of “bosphorus.” BosphoRus Restaurant, located in Hartsdale, has been open for business for six months and has quickly become a haven for the unique flavors that were once part of the vast Ottoman Empire.

Creative Cooking – Turkish food with a Russian accent at BosphoRus

BosphoRus is the latest addition to Hartsdale’s “restaurant row.” Mostly Turkish food with a Russian accent is how its co-owners describe the fare. Partners Alexander Goldansky, of Rus­sian descent, and Necdet Kasimoglu from Turkey, met at an English as a Sec­ond Language class, and as their friend­ship developed, they decided to open a restaurant together. Goldansky, who is experienced in real estate, believes “lo­cation is everything.”
